Morotai Island, North Maluku
A place where sharks still rule the reef.
Morotai’s waters hold a kind of quiet power. Remote and raw, its underwater world feels like a glimpse into the past, when reefs were wilder, and apex predators still claimed their space.
This series is centered on one thing: sharks.
Blacktip reef sharks, curious and fast-moving, patrol the shallow coral slopes. Deeper down, you catch the unmistakable silhouettes, graceful, unbothered, and entirely in their element. Sometimes they pass by alone. Other times, they circle in numbers, commanding the scene with nothing but presence.
What makes Morotai special isn't just the shark sightings, it's how natural they feel. The reef doesn’t flinch. The fish don’t scatter. It’s a sign of balance that’s getting harder to find elsewhere.
These frames aren’t just about capturing movement. They’re about respect, for the role these creatures play, and the rare places where they’re still allowed to be wild.
